Manifold Mayhem & Carb Chaos

The 40DCOE32 side draught and a pair of 40DCNF down draughts.

Looking 'up' through the DCNFs

Comparison of the barrel spacing between the DCOE & DCNF

Compared to the DCOE the DCNF is supprisingly short.

The DCNF also has nice looking rampipes built in which helps keep the length down.

With a 90 degree adaptor made up the DCOE would fit onto the std manifold reasonably well

The DCNF looks like it would fit quite well too, with just the 'problem' of having the air filter sticking up through the bonnet. Ohhhh, nightmare, how would I cope !

Having decided that something could probably, eventually, be made to fit, I started cutting the top off the manifold, by hand. Note to aid the operation suitable lubrication was used,WD40 was also used to stop the blade from sticking

After what seemed like the blink of an eye, but was in fact an hour, the top was off !

Eeek, waterways into the top, oh well never mind.

For a 'hand job' the results were not at all bad, being aluminium it should be easy to 'square up' the cut face.

If a DCOE is to be used then a simple 90 degree adaptor could be made bycutting some ports through a solid block of aluminium

The ports need to angle inwards to meet the holes in the manifold

But our friend the DCN seems to sit on ok

And better still the ports are virtually the same size, with only 3 or 4 mm difference in the centres.

I will make a proper adaptor plate from 5mm aluminium that will bolt between the carb and the manifold, then recut the ports through this to match the carb.
